And you LJ bonus: A non-toxic way to clean out a clogged drain.

Pour baking soda down the drain (say, a cup). Pour about a cup of vinegar after the soda. Watch a sudsy volcano appear in your sink! Let the volcano continue to erupt for several minutes. It's dissolving any fatty globules that are causing blockage. Pour water down the drain to wash the volcano away.

For extra fun, throw some red food coloring in with the baking soda and hum that Poltergeist music during the eruption.

so weird...
"buy drano" was on my list of things to do today.

however, the clogged drain in question is in the bathtub and it's got one of those stopper things that doesn't really come out, it just pops up or down (so pouring anything straight down is out of the question). i wonder if i could still somehow make this work...

thanks for the advice, anyhow :)

I pretty sure you could mix the baking soda and vinegar in a bucket or bowl and pour it down the drain pretty danged quickly. I'd recommend doing this in the tub, though, so that any spill over is going to find its way down the drain, eventually.
