December 21st, 2009: I received some amazing winter footers! I'll leave this up one more day and put up the winner tomorrow. Thanks every! And here's what I'm talking about (from Friday): Okay so it's WINTER and I've still got that fall footer at the bottom of the page. Just like what I did for fall, I'm having a winter footer contest. Send me your best 1000x96 (it can be a bit taller if you want) image that loops, and I'll pick the winner and put it up on the site! Also, if you send in a URL I'll link to your URL with your submission.

Here's the fall version and the fall background image I use for looping. When I say "loops" I mean that the left-hand side of the image is the same as the right-hand side of the image, so when they're tiled horizontally they go together nicely. The background image is just repetitive part of the larger image without much detail to it that I can use for tiling.

Send them in if you're interested, and thanks!

This was inside of a book of cat pictures. Apparently this old lady lost her beloved kitty Koko and was practically inconsolable so her daughter bought her this book. The whole book was full of quotes and poems that she wrote. Poor old cat lady.

It's sad that this post-card never made it to the intended recipient, even though it doesn't say anything terribly important.

I found this note stuck on the inside cover of Running in Heels, by Anna Maxted. I'm convinced its good luck because the lady only charged me 50 cents for the 23 books I picked out. Oh, and there really were crumbs inside, or maybe it was sand from the beach.

What did this band of mustachioed hooligans just successfully pull off?

The man who makes and sells jewelry on the corner next to my shop has been occasionally receiving letters from a woman possibly named Meredith. He does not know who she is, and though her return address is sometimes marked as the same city we live in, the envelopes will be stamped with Jackson, FL, Memphis TN, and other cities on the other side of the country. The letters are sent to a local coffee house and sometimes has a dollar in them.

All night long I dreamed about cameras, what do you make of that?

December 18th, 2009: Here are some dudes playing classic SNES games for charity this weekend! You can watch them play and you can donate if they defeat Andross. You don't have to wait until they defeat Andross though!

I moved into a new apartment in Baltimore and started drinking early with some friends to celebrate. Needless to say, I forgot I parked my car in a small alleyway to move my things in through the backdoor. I woke up the next morning with this note on my car, which has a Pennsylvania license tag, and realized that the trash men indeed could not possibly get through, but rather laid on the horn for an hour or so.

Well I guess to be a good repoman it probably helps to know the difference between a Cavalier and a Subara Impreza. My girlfriend found this under her windshield wiper while on business. She never bothered to contact Bob ... hope everything turned out sheriffic for Robert!

Garance was shooting her friend Jessica yesterday so I hung out with Jessica's boyfriend Jed.

Jed is a very cool artist with a very cool laidback LA style. I love that big "grandpa-style" cardigan he's wearing in this shot.

It is always a little sad when you see things you'd love to wear but know that it would never look good on you. A chunky cardigan like his can only be worn well by someone bringing none of their own chunk to the collaboration of man and knitwear. It is a sad truth but I am wiser for knowing it and planning my wardrobe accordingly.

Garance and I stopped over in LA on the way back from Australia.

The light here is incredible. Garance has been filming with her 5D like crazy.

Eating breakfast outside on a patio in the middle of December is something I could get use to quickly.

Book Soup is a great bookshop. Almost too many great book in one place and I can only carry a few more pounds in my suitcase. I did buy the new Paolo Roversi book Studio there, what a great book.

Opening Ceremony is really dominating the fashion scene here. No other store has nearly the edit and variety of collections that they offer.

So this leads me to painful question. What happened to Fred Segal?
I see they've dropped Dries Van Noten but picked-up Amber Valetta's new collection...interesting.

December 17th, 2009: Thanks to Steven, an almost-lawyer who set me straight on the bear-punching clauses! The legality of spend-a-night-in-an-actually-haunted-house clauses remain an enigma.

The Child's Play charity auction for a T-Rex Squishable raised $241.51 for Child's Play. Nice work, you guys!
